Once the ears were done I realised that the face I had created had no where enough detail and that it was just the standard base model for a face to be designed over the top of. This made me change the whole shape of my face, I started finding reference on google and created the cheekbones and made them stick out whilst the cheeks were sucked in slightly. I then started creating shape to the face like under the lip where the nose and the mouth have the detail above and below. I also started shaping around his forehead and temples because they really add a lot of the shape to someones face. I made his eyebrows slightly more protruding because they weren't sticking out or covering his eyes at all. I also used the dam_standard brush to create eyelids and make a fold where they were meant to be.
I have now finished the face on my model so I decided to start working on the neck, shoulders and chest of my model, as we have to create the whole bust. I started with the neck and the shoulders and will create the chest after. For this i'm using the clay buildup brush because it's better for making much more drastic changes such as creating shoulder muscles, traps and a neck. I started with the neck adding the muscles that start from behind the ear and go down diagonally. I used this as a start for my neck and built up around it. I then started shaping the cranium of my character behind the ears because the human head isn't as round as I previously thought it was.
This is the start of my character design on the zbrush project, to create this I started off using a zsphere. I built up the ball making it larger and then stretching the clay to make the bust shape. I then started making slight changes in the shape to the face, the resolution at this level was very low so I was just making the base for the face later on, making sure that the proportions were correct. Once I was satisfied that I couldnt do anymore on this level I decided the amount of points on the object and got to work on building finer details such as the facial features. In the early model I also created two more zpsheres to create eyes for my model so that I could work around them and create the shape of the eye.
This is my model in the second subdivision. In this division I started adding the nose and making the shape for the nostrils, as well as creating a bump to shape the lips around although the amount of pixels was still very low so I decdided to divivde again straight away.
This is in the third sub divison, so far i'm only working on the base model of the character, my design is that he is going to be wearing headgear that covers his whole face and head apart from just his eyes. In this detail I could also start shaping the shoulders of the model, I rounded the bust off more and also started working on the details for the neck. As you can see there is a lot more work done on the face, the nose has some detail and the mouth is starting to take shape. The eyes are taking me quite long to sort out with such few pixels as I cant get the clay to come over the two zspeheres that I inserted.
This version of my model has a much more detail on it however it is far from done. I created the ears and the general face but I still want to make changes to make it look more human rather than a clone and more like the character that I designed. I need to change the ears because the polys arent evenly spread out so there is a lot of pinching with the clay which needs to be fixed. There is generally more work on the torso area and I tried to use reference imagery to create the chest.
This version of the character is where I started to get to work on changing the face and adding minor details which I had earlier missed out, the detail on the neck and the chest has increased and I also started trying to add muscular lines to the character. I added more depth to the face by making the eyebrows protrude more and shaping the cheekbones to make them more hollowed. I also added more shaping to the mouth area to show his jaw structure and chin more as well as facial muscles. On the final version of my base model I did most of the work on my eyes and ears, I was satisfied with mostly everything on my model.
On this final version of the model I am on my 7th sub division resulting in about 1.2 million polys. In this version I shaped the nose of my character and my last detail to the eyes. I struggled endlessly with getting the cheekbones the right shape and size to match the protrusion of the eyes and nose but in the end was quite happy with what I had accomplished. I think that my character now looks a lot more human than the previous versions that I had created. After this I started work on the robes that I had made for my character.
